Talk:Math 387

It's not clear to me what the difference is between learning outcome 1 for Math 387 and learning outcome 8 for Math 190. If they are the same, we should consider deleting one or the other.--Cpg 09:00, 8 May 2008 (MDT)

Proposed Catalog Changes

In Math 190, I usually limit myself to a bare bones presentation of the topics listed in learning outcome 8. In Math 387, I present these topics (primes, gcd, unique factorization) in commutative domains, and give several examples, including the integers. The treatement is significantly deeper, and I expect more of the students in 387. I agree that we should probably change the learning outcome for 387 to reflect the higher level of understanding that is expected. dmd54
